Extra Help - Dance Staff

POSITION SUMMARY

The Friday Night Social at The Arc of the Peninsulas exists to provide an enjoyable and social outlet for adults in the community who have been diagnosed with an intellectual and/or developmental disability. The dance is a lively, fast-paced, uplifting environment for over 200 attendees. The dance is held each Friday (except holiday weekends) from 4 pm to 7 pm. Live DJ/music and snack food are provided to all participants and caregivers.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL/DANCE PROGRAM
"The Dance" is one of The Arc's most popular program since 1978 and strives to increase social skills, meaningful participation, and self-determination, all in a recreational opportunity. It is an evening where the community comes together in a safe environment to have fun, meet friends, and of course, dance.

The dance is most Friday nights from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Adults 18 years and older only.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Assist guests with recreational and dance activities to ensure they are included and welcomed at the dance.

  • Provide orientation to new participants and caregivers.

  • Ensure the FNS environment is conducive to the safety and enjoyment of our dance patrons.

  • Ability to monitor and intervene with issues or disruptive behavior and report to the Program Manager. (Intervene first if safety is an issue.)

  • Ensure all policies of The Arc are enforced.

  • Ensure all safety and security measures are observed.

  • Work collaboratively with Kitsap Transit Access personal to ensure safety around buses and that all attendees are picked up at the close of the dance each night.

  • Assist with a dance set up, moving tables, making popcorn/food/beverages, decorations, and restocking supplies to ensure the dance hall is ready for attendees.

  • Assist with dance clean up, moving tables back, cleaning hall and concession area, wiping off all tables, and promptly cleaning up spills and tripping hazards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.


SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Able to work positively and effectively with a variety of personalities and work styles.

  • Tactful, yet also assertive when necessary.

  • Strong work ethic / willing and able to 'go the extra mile' when needed.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities preferred, must be willing and able to work positively with adults with I/dd.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position offered.

  •  Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Report any suspected abuse, abandonment, neglect, or financial exploitation.

  • Must have freedom of motion to bend, stoop, twist, and kneel.

  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods.

  • Documentation of CPR/First Aid Certification and Food Handler's Permit.

  • Strength sufficient to lift 25lbs.

 

REPORTS TO

  • Program Manager.

HOURS AND COMPENSATION

  • $15.00/per hour.
