MATERIAL HANDLER I (WAREHOUSE LABORER)

POSITION SUMMARY

Since 1938, The Arc of the Peninsulas has provided services locally to tens of thousands of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the Olympic Peninsula region. In the process, we have tirelessly promoted the acceptance and inclusion of people of all abilities, advocated for the most current research-based improvements, and opened new doors in helping people achieve a lifetime of success.

The warehouse laborer position has the responsibility of assisting transportation in the loading and unloading of material from company trucks and contractors into the warehouse for efficient processing. Warehouse employees contribute to the company’s success by ensuring accurate and timely packaging, bailing, and bagging of donated clothing for shipment. In addition, each employee is responsible for the careful transfer, packaging, and storage of materials and the effective utilization of resources. The position may involve processing unloaded material, recycling, and general cleaning through a variety of mechanisms, including the use of rolling carts, pallet jack lift truck, and manual labor.

Please note that this is a highly physical position.
 

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Unloading the box truck full of collected material after the route.

  • Place processed materials in in the designated area

  • Load and unload trucks as required, utilizing pallet-jacks, pull carts and Gaylords, in addition to working by hand.

  • Sorting all miscellaneous donations categories including metal, plastic, electronics, cardboard and remaining Miscellaneous Items

  • Organize miscellaneous area at end of the day.

  • Sweep floor in the miscellaneous area to remove debris collected from the day’s sort.

  • Ensure no broken glass, or debris is in the work area.

  • Empty garbage cans and sweep work area daily

  • Stage finished product in designated loading areas.

  • Work Schedule, 5-day work week must be available to work weekends, 7:00 AM Start Time.

  • Other duties as directed to support the functions of the department.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities preferred, must be willing and able to work positively with adults with I/dd.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Able to work positively and effectively with a variety of personalities and work styles.

  • Strong work ethic / willing and able to 'go the extra mile' when needed.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility to work hours based on business needs, including possible evenings or weekends

  • Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position offered.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Must have freedom of motion to bend, stoop, twist, and kneel.

  • Documentation of CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Strength sufficient to lift 40lbs.

  • Rarely may need to lift items an excess of 50lbs to 75lbs.

  • Assistant Manager for Social Enterprise.

HOURS AND COMPENSATION

  • $16.00-$16.97/per hour, based on qualifications. 

  • Full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits: Medical/Dental; 403b Retirement; Vacation leave; paid holidays.
