Parent Coalition Coordinator (Mason County)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Parent Coalition Coordinator duties involve managing the Mason County Parent Coalition sponsored by The Arc of the Peninsulas. The position requires a high level of project management and independent task-management and empathy.

The Mason County Parent Coalition (MCPC) provides education, advocacy, and referrals to help people with developmental disabilities get the support and services they need to improve their lives. Our Parent Coalition Coordinator arranges regular coalition meetings with special guest speakers and prepares newsletters and alerts on issues important to the disability community. MCPC provides more than support to people with disabilities, it strengthens their families as well, providing parent mentoring for caregivers and volunteer advocates for special education issues.

The Mason County Parent Coalition program offers parent support as a core resource for families with children who have a special health care needs, disability, or mental health issue. Through a one-to-one "match," experienced support parents provide emotional support to families and assist them in finding information and resources. The program is committed to listening and learning from families and developing an array of services and supports in response to a family identified needs.

GENERAL DUTIES
 

Parent & Family Trainings and Support

  • IEP Parent Partner Program, Special Education, Transition (Life after High School), Connecting Families, which include support groups, activities, training, and Sibshops.

 

Parent Advisory Group

  • Establish and meet with your Parent Advisory group for the Mason County Parent Coalition quarterly and report on the discussion of culturally sensitive parent support, training, and information sharing.

 
SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Effective oral and written writing skills.

  • Strong communicator and problem-solving.

  • Able to work positively and effectively with a variety of personalities and work styles.

  • Tactful, yet also assertive when necessary.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Use spreadsheets, charts, and other tools to develop and track action plans.

  • Strong work ethic / willing and able to 'go the extra mile' when needed.

  • Able to work positively and effectively with a variety of personalities and work styles.

  • Experience and familiarity with managing a budget preferred. 

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities preferred, must be willing and able to work positively with adults with I/dd.

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Must be a parent of an individual who has been diagnosed with I/DD.

 

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Driver's license, reliable transportation, able and willing to drive, navigate, and work throughout Mason County.

  • Some presence in the office during the workweek and ability to work flexible hours and days is required.  

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Must Report any suspected abuse, abandonment, neglect, or financial exploitation.

 

REPORTS TO

  • Program Manager, The Arc in Mason.

 HOURS AND COMPENSATION

  • $22.50-$26.08/per hour, based on qualifications. 

  • Part-time position, budgeted for 20 hours a week.

  • Mileage paid at current IRS travel rates for miles driven while traveling outside of Mason County.
